File approver is a kind of verification used in the issuance process of an SSL certificate. For file approver, a small file has to be placed on the server. The Certificate Authority can then verify the ownership using that approver file.
File approver can only be used in accordance with the API and is only available for the DV certificates of Symantec, Thawte, GeoTrust, and RapidSSL. This form of verification replaces verification by email.
The content of the approver file is sent to you in the API response. Copy this text and save it in a file with the name 'verify.txt'.
The approver file must be uploaded in the following directory on the server:
GlobalSign orders: uw common name/.well-known/pki-validation/verify.txt
Symantec orders: uw common name/.well-known/pki-validation/fileauth.txt
For more information on the use of file approver verification, please read chapter 5.3 of our API documentation.
