The creation of a CSR in Microsoft IIS 8 and 8.5 is done directly on the Windows Server.
Log in on the Windows server. Search for the application ‘Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager’ in your start menu and open the application.
Select the server name from the Connections menu on the left side of the window. Open the option ‘Server Certificates’ from the list of icons in the middle of the window.
Select the option ‘Create Certificate Request…’ from the Actions menu on the right side of the window. This opens a wizard.
Enter the following information:
- Common name (The domain name for which the CSR is created)
- Organization (the full company name as was entered into the Trade Register of the Chamber of Commerce or a similar register)
- Organizational unit (The department of the company, for instance Sales)
- City/Locality (The city where your company is located)
- State/province (The state or province where your company is located)
- Country/region (the country code in capital letters, for example NL)
In the next window, called ‘Cryptographic Service Provider Properties’, select ‘Microsoft RSA SChannel Cryptographic Provider’ as the Cryptographic Service Provider. Select ‘2048’ for your desired ‘bit length’.
Select the folder where you want to save your CSR and click ‘finish’.
The CSR is now saved in the selected location. This will be similar to the following example:
